7 things remarkably happy people do often

  1. Make good friends — Christians have what it takes to be real friends so they should be real friends with each other.
  2. Actively express thankfulness — Christians have so much to be thankful about that they should be overflowing with thankfulness.
    • rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in it in thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:7)
    • Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. (Colossians 3:16-17)
  3. Actively pursue your goals — The Christian who is actively pursuing higher and grander goals will be happy as they see the day approaching.
    • So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:18)
    • For we live by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)
    • But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. (1 Thessalonians 5:8)
    • Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1)
  4. Do what you excel at as often as you can — There is no faster way to happiness than serving others doing what you love. Take a good inventory of what you do best, and serve others with it.
  5. Give — It truly is more blessed to give than to receive.
  6. Don’t single-mindedly chase “stuff” — Don’t be tricked into thinking happiness comes from things.
    • In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle. (Proverbs 23:5)
    • Someone in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” But He said to him, “Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over you?” Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.” And He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive. “And he began reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’ “Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. ‘And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ “So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:13-21)
    • Stop doing these things (they will destroy the joy of your salvation)
  7. Live the life you want to live — Only a Christian can really live the live they really want to live
    • Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. So let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall. (Romans 14:12-13)
    • But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another. (Galatians 5:22-26)
