Testing Mormonism

"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel* unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed" (Gal 1:8)
* The word "gospel" means "good news" or "glad tidings." In the case of Galatians 1:8 it is the "good news" of personal salvation.

Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism, claimed to have had several visions from God while he was yet in his teens. During one of these appearances an angel by the name of Moroni was supposed to have advised Joseph of the location of a set of golden plates. These plates were to contain "an account of the former inhabitants of this continent"...and..."the fullness of the everlasting gospel was contained in it..." (Joseph Smith 2:34).

Tests for Truth

Since we are instructed in the word of God to "prove all things and hold fast to that which is good" (1Thess 5:21), at least three questions should immediately come to mind.

  1. How does the gospel ministered by the apostle Paul in the Bible compare with the "fullness of the everlasting gospel" contained in Mormonism?

  2. Does Joseph Smith pass God's test for a true prophet?

  3. Does the "account of the former inhabitants of this continent" in the Book of Mormon find verification in history and archaeology as the Bible does with its record?

Mormonism is "another gospel" and therefore under the curse of Almighty God. Joses Smith does not pass God's test of a prophet and would have been stoned to death under the Mosaic Ten Commandment Law. The Book of Mormon is not historically accurate. This is all bad fruit from a bad tree.
