Teachings about God

Since the Mormons teach the blasphemous lie that man may become God one day ("As man is, God once was; as God is man may become"...James Talmage in 'The Articles of Faith'), you would expect their teaching about God to be very faulty also. And, indeed it is. They teach God has a body of flesh in spite of this clear statement in the word of God...

"God is a spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth" John 4:24.

The Mormons cite verses which speak of the "finger, arm, and hands of God" in a vain attempt to support their body of flesh doctrine. They act as though they are not aware that at times God uses pictorial language or metaphor to convey an idea to us. If this is not so, they will have more than a little trouble with "Our God is a consuming fire" of Hebrews 12:29 and the "feathers and wings" of Psalms 91:4.

Their teaching about the Lord Jesus is of course anti-Biblical too. Brigham Young declared, "Jesus Christ was not begotten of the Holy Spirit" in total contradiction to the word of God.

Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Luke 1:34-35 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Brigham Young taught that Adam was the God of this world and the Lord Jesus Christ came into existence by a sexual relationship between Adam and Mary! The ramifications of this never seems to bother a Mormon. If this filthy lie were true, Mary was a fornicator who deserved to die under the Mosaic law (Deut 22:13) and the product of this union was a bastard who could not have sat on the throne of Israel until the tenth generation of His progeny (Deut 23:2). He therefore, could not possibly have been the "King of the Jews" offering the kingdom to Israel and was obviously a false Messiah! In addition, since the Bible prophesy of the coming Messiah said He would be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14), and the Mormon christ was born of a mother who was not a virgin, then of course the Mormon christ is false.

The Mormon teaching on the person of Christ is blasphemous. They claim He was "the firstborn spirit child" of God the Father and that He attained unto the status of Godhood while yet in the premortal existence.1 Thus they show their ignorance and unbelief of the meaning of the expression "firstborn" as used in the word of God, relative to Christ.

"And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence." (Colossians 1:18)

The Lord Jesus Christ became the "firstborn" in His resurrection (see Acts 13:33), not in some premortal creation as a spirit child. Nor did the Christ of the Bible attain to Godhead sometime after His supposed creation as may clearly be seen from the following:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." (John 1:1-3)

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." (Revelation 1:8)

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)

"Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour." (Isaiah 43:10-11)

"Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God." (Isaiah 44:6)

"Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any." (Isaiah 44:8)

Thus we see the christ of Mormonism is NOT the Christ of the Bible! Therefore, faith in their created christ whose blood was insufficient to wash us from our sins is in vain.
