Religious CultsThe dictionary defines a cult as "A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader. " (The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition Copyright © 2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company. Published by Houghton Mifflin Company. Only the Spirit of God can reveal to us the real meaning of Paul's inspired declaration that "She that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth".--1 Tim. 5:6. So also with John's statement in 1 John 5:12: "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life". Three Open Leters To Herbert W. Armstrong — These letters were written many years ago, and there have been changes in the so-called World Wide Church of God since then, but we are continuing to publish them because they have been referenced in other wide-spread literature and we still receive many requests for them. We know that Satan doesn't have any new tricks up his sleeves, so these principles can help today, "lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11)."
Calvanism —
The three basic tenants of Calvanism: (1) limited atonement of the Lord Jesus
Christ Predestination vs. Calvanism — Predestination is taught in the bible, but the philosophy that God chooses who will be saved is false doctrine. The Bible teaches that saved people are predestined to GLORY, and that Christ rejecters are predestined to the LAKE of FIRE. Jesus Christ was predestined to die, etc. But never do we read of people predestined to be saved. God’s foreknowledge and sovereignty is never in question with true believers. Elect, chosen, called etc. does not necessarily refer to the saved, but more often Israel. Additional Thoughts on Predestination — Consider these additional Biblical questions and answers about Calvanism. Are You a Religious Drunkard? — If there is only "one, true, spiritual church" then, of course, the so-called "visible" churches are not "true" and they are not "spiritual." Since the Lord Jesus Christ is building only one church, the one concerning which He promised: "Upon this rock I will build my church," who but a "drunk" could think He is building any one of these man-made, local churches - to say nothing of the 666 varying, competing, sectarian corporations called Christian Churches? Testing the Mormon Gospel — Since we are instructed in the word of God to "prove all things and hold fast to that which is good" (1Thess 5:21), at least three questions should immediately come to mind. How does the gospel ministered by the apostle Paul in the Bible compare with the "fullness of the everlasting gospel" contained in Mormonism? Does Joseph Smith pass God's test for a true prophet? Does the "account of the former inhabitants of this continent" in the Book of Mormon find verification in history and archaeology as the Bible does with its record? Mormonism is "another gospel" and therefore under the curse of Almighty God. Joseph Smith does not pass God's test of a prophet and would have been stoned to death under the Mosaic Ten Commandment Law. The Book of Mormon is not historically accurate. This is all bad fruit from a bad tree Our hope is that you will be as those in Berea of whom we are told in Acts 17:11: "These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so." Having this attitude we trust that you will then obey these exhortations from the apostle Paul, I Thessalonians 5:20-22: "Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil."
