God of second chances and U-turns (Deuteronomy 30)

Deuteronomy 30 is one of my top ten favorite chapters in the Bible. It proves we serve a God of second chances who allows U-turns.

You are going to need U-turns

All these blessings and curses I have spoken about will happen to you. Take them to heart when you are among all the nations where the LORD your God will scatter you. (Deuteronomy 30:1 GWT)

You are not sinless. You are not perfect. You will fail. When it happens, not if it happens, remember what Moses said.

God allows U-turns

If you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul, doing everything I command you today, he will restore your fortunes. He will have mercy on you and gather you from all the nations of the world where he will scatter you. (Deuteronomy 30:2-3 GWT)

There is always a way of escape. There is always a second chance because God allows U-turns. You can always obey God. He has promised to hear that confession and that desire.

U-turns produce results

The LORD your God will give you many blessings in everything you do: You will have many children. Your animals will have many offspring. Your soil will produce many crops. The LORD will again delight in making you as prosperous as he made your ancestors. (Deuteronomy 30:9 GWT)
