Jesus Christ is the Passover Lamb of God sacrificed for the sin of the world

Here are 101 verses that prove Jesus Christ is the Passover Lamb of God. This message has been consistently preached throughout the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. It was preached by God to Adam, by Moses to Israel, by the prophets to the nation, and by the apostles to the world. Jesus Christ was manifested in the flesh to be the substitutionary Passover Lamb of God. Christians have applied that blood to the doorposts of their heart for 2000 years. Someday, he will return in power and authority as the Lion of Judah.

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (Genesis 3:15)

For the Son of Man will come in His Father’s glory with His angels, and then He will repay each one according to what he has done. (Matthew 16:27)

“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to what he has done. (Revelation 22:12)

Abel offered a sacrificial lamb at the appointed time

We aren’t told how Cain and Abel knew God required a blood sacrifice, but we know they did because God rebuked Cain for not doing what he knew to do. In many ways, this is the real first passover in the Bible.

At the designated time Cain brought some of the fruit of the ground for an offering to the Lord. But Abel brought some of the firstborn of his flock – even the fattest of them. And the Lord was pleased with Abel and his offering, but with Cain and his offering he was not pleased. So Cain became very angry, and his expression was downcast. (Genesis 4:3-5 NET)

By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous when God gave approval to his gifts. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead. (Hebrews 11:4)

Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why is your expression downcast? Is it not true that if you do what is right, you will be fine? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. It desires to dominate you, but you must subdue it.” (Genesis 4:6-7 NET)

Abraham believed God will provide himself a lamb

The scriptures say Abraham believed God when he promised that Isaac would be the promised seed from whom would spring descendants more numerous than the stars. When God asked Abraham to prove his faith by sacrificing Isaac, he believed that God was able to raise him up from dead ashes to fulfil the covenant. Abraham might not have celebrated the passover feast but he experienced the reality of God’s passover.

It happened after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” He said, “Here I am.” He said, “Now take your son, your only son, whom you love, even Isaac, and go into the land of Moriah. Offer him there for a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of.” Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him. On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place far off. Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go yonder. We will worship, and come back to you.” Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. He took in his hand the fire and the knife. They both went together. Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and said, “My father?” He said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they both went together. (Genesis 22:1-8 WEB)

They came to the place which God had told him of. Abraham built the altar there, and laid the wood in order, bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, on the wood. Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to kill his son. (Genesis 22:9-10 WEB)

The angel of Yahweh called to him out of the sky, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” He said, “Here I am.” He said, “Don’t lay your hand on the boy, neither do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and saw that behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son. Abraham called the name of that place Yahweh Will Provide. As it is said to this day, “On Yahweh’s mountain, it will be provided.” (Genesis 22:11-14 WEB)

The angel of Yahweh called to Abraham a second time out of the sky, and said, “I have sworn by myself, says Yahweh, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son, that I will bless you greatly, and I will multiply your seed greatly like the stars of the heavens, and like the sand which is on the seashore. Your seed will possess the gate of his enemies. In your seed will all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.” So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba. Abraham lived at Beersheba. (Genesis 22:15-19 WEB)

Moses gave instructions for Passover

In the epic battle between the Lord’s servant Moses and the enemies servant Pharaoh, God sent 10 harsher plagues on Egypt culminating in the ultimate death of the first born of all man and animal throughout the land except where the angel saw the blood of the lamb and passed over the obedient people at the first passover.

  • The first passover feast (Exodus 12)
  • The second passover feast (Numbers 9)
  • The law of passover feast (Leviticus 23:4-8; Numbers 28:16-25Deuteronomy 16:1-8)
    • A male lamb of the first year without blemish
    • Killed at evening of the 14th day of Nisan
    • Blood smeared on sides and top of door frames
    • Roasted over fire (not raw or boiled)
    • Eaten completely (leftovers burnt before morning)
    • Eat with urgency, fully dressed, ready to go
    • Without any trace of yeast in the house
    • Reminder that God redeemed you from Egypt
    • A permanent law for all descendants forever

In the first recorded song in the Bible, Moses described the ongoing passover of God’s mercy to the children of Israel. Thousands of years later, the Apostle John was given a vision of saints in heaven, who had survived the great tribulation, still singing this Song of Moses about the passover. That makes this song the longest continuous number one most popular best seller ever.

Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased. Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established. The LORD shall reign for ever and ever. (Exodus 15:16-18)

And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels having seven plagues, which are the last, for in them is finished the wrath of God. And I saw as it were a glassy sea mingled with fire; and them that come victorious from the beast, and from his image, and from the number of his name, standing by the glassy sea, having harps of God. And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are thy works, O Lord God, the Almighty; righteous and true are thy ways, thou King of the ages. Who shall not fear, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy; for all the nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy righteous acts have been made manifest. (Revelation 15:1-4 ERV)

Moses gave instructions for sin offering

The Prophets foretold of the lamb of God

It is no surprise when John the Baptist preaches in the wilderness thousands of years later because this message of the Suffering Messiah as the lamb of God that will be sacrificed as the passover lamb has been consistently preached from throughout the entire Old Testament from Genesis to Malachi.

“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!” (John 5:39)

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. (Isaiah 53:1-8; Matthew 26:57-68Mark 14:53-65John 18:19-241 Peter 2:21-25)

For I was like a gentle lamb led to slaughter; I did not know that they had plotted against me: “Let us destroy the tree with its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name will be remembered no more.” (Jeremiah 11:19)

Return to the LORD and repent! Say to him: “Completely forgive our iniquity; accept our penitential prayer, that we may offer the praise of our lips as sacrificial bulls. (Hosea 14:2)

But I, with the voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to You. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation is from the LORD!” (Jonah 2:9)

Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance–who does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in loving devotion? He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast out all our sins into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:18-19)

John the Baptist recognized the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world

John the Baptist was sent, with the message of Isaiah, in the spirit of Elijah, as the voice of one shouting in the wilderness, “Make straight the way for the Lord.” He never witnessed the earthly passover feasts with Jesus Christ, but he will be present at the heavenly passover feast at the marriage supper of the lamb.

On the next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one about whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is greater than I am, because he existed before me.’ I did not recognize him, but I came baptizing with water so that he could be revealed to Israel.” (John 1:29-31; Matthew 3:13-17Mark 1:9-11Luke 3:21-22)

Again the next day John was standing there with two of his disciples. Gazing at Jesus as he walked by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” (John 1:35-36)

Jesus Christ said his body was the passover sacrifice

At the last Passover supper, Jesus Christ explained the real significance of the memorial. He explained that it had always represented his body that would be crucified and his blood that would be shed for the sins of the world.

And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing. (Luke 22:14-23; Matthew 26:26-30Mark 14:22-261 Corinthians 11:17-34)

[Jesus Christ said,] “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh.” (John 6:51)

He said to them, “This is what I told you, while I was still with you, that all things which are written in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures. He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. Behold, I send forth the promise of my Father on you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:44-49 WEB)

The apostles revealed Jesus Christ is our Passover

The apostles were eyewitnesses of the majesty of the Lord Jesus Christ. They participated in the earthly ministry. They shared the passover feasts with Jesus Christ. They were present at the crucifixion. They experienced the resurrection. And, they were given power from on high to be witnesses to the ends of the earth.

God presented Him as an atoning sacrifice through faith in His blood, in order to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance He had passed over the sins committed beforehand. (Romans 3:25)

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: (1 Corinthians 5:7)

Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children. Walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance. (Ephesians 5:1-2 WEB)

And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. (1 Peter 1:17-21)

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. (1 John 3:4-5)

For such a high priest was fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; who doesn’t need, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices daily, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. For he did this once for all, when he offered up himself. For the law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the law appoints a Son forever who has been perfected. (Hebrews 7:26-28 WEB)

But Christ having come as a high priest of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation, nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into the Holy Place, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh: how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:11-14 WEB)

For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, that those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. For where a last will and testament is, there must of necessity be the death of him who made it. For a will is in force where there has been death, for it is never in force while he who made it lives. Therefore even the first covenant has not been dedicated without blood. For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” Moreover he sprinkled the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry in the same way with the blood. According to the law, nearly everything is cleansed with blood, and apart from shedding of blood there is no remission. (Hebrews 9:15-22 WEB)

It was necessary therefore that the copies of the things in the heavens should be cleansed with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ hasn’t entered into holy places made with hands, which are representations of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest enters into the holy place year by year with blood not his own, or else he must have suffered often since the foundation of the world. But now once at the end of the ages, he has been revealed to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. Inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment, so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, without sin, to those who are eagerly waiting for him for salvation. (Hebrews 9:23-28 WEB)

Previously saying, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn’t desire, neither had pleasure in them” (those which are offered according to the law), then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (Hebrews 10:8-10 WEB)

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that confess His name. (Hebrews 13:15)

The Apostle John described the lamb of God in heaven

The Apostle John was given a series of amazing revelations into heaven itself with Jesus Christ as his personal tour guide. He saw the real tabernacle, from which the tabernacle in the wilderness was modeled. He witnessed the real passover feast in Heaven. He saw the real throne with Jesus Christ seated in the midst of divine glory. And he saw all the plagues of the great tribulation that are going to be unleashed on mankind with the ultimate goal of redeeming the children of God from the greater-Egypt into the greater promised land of eternal heaven. And he saw Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, who redeemed us for God with his passover sacrifice.

I saw, in the right hand of him who sat on the throne, a book written inside and outside, sealed shut with seven seals. I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book, and to break its seals?” No one in heaven above, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book, or to look in it. And I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open the book, or to look in it. (Revelation 5:1-4 WEB)

One of the elders said to me, “Don’t weep. Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome; he who opens the book and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:5 WEB)

I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth. Then he came, and he took it out of the right hand of him who sat on the throne. Now when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. They sang a new song, saying, “You are worthy to take the book, and to open its seals: for you were killed, and bought us for God with your blood, out of every tribe, language, people, and nation, and made us kings and priests to our God, and we will reign on earth.” (Revelation 5:6-10 WEB)

I saw, and I heard something like a voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousands of ten thousands, and thousands of thousands; saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who has been killed to receive the power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing!” I heard every created thing which is in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever! Amen!” The four living creatures said, “Amen!” The elders fell down and worshiped. (Revelation 5:11-14 WEB)

Will you be at this greater Passover Feast in heaven? If you don’t know for sure that you have been redeemed by the precious blood of the lamb of God, won’t you take a moment to ask him to forgive you of your sins and apply the blood of his sacrifice to your heart. He has never failed to answer that prayer. He will change your life.

I write this, dear children, to guide you out of sin. But if anyone does sin, we have a Priest-Friend in the presence of the Father: Jesus Christ, righteous Jesus. When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good—not only ours, but the whole world’s. (1 John 2:1-2 MSG)

And just one more thing, if you are not ready yet, please consider that Jesus Christ has always been the Passover Lamb of God even before the Bible was written.

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. If any man have an ear, let him hear. (Revelation 13:8)
