Jesus wants to be your friend

If you show me your friends, I will tell you who you are, and I will show you your future. It’s an old expression that has stood the test of time. What kind of friends do you have? Good friends, bad friends, helpful friends, needy friends, loving friends, hurtful friends. How would you like to have God for a personal friend? How would that define you? What would that mean for your future?

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you.  No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn’t know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you.  You didn’t choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you. “I command these things to you, that you may love one another. (John 15:13-17 WEB)

Does your friend define you?

Your friends affect you. Your friends affect other people. Therefore, a wise person surrounds themself with better people. However, a foolish person surrounds themself with worse people. If you don’t like who you are, then you need to find new friends.

Don’t be deceived! “Evil companionships corrupt good morals.” (1 Corinthians 15:33 WEB)

There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24 NLT)

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who stays closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24)

Surely the Lord GOD does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants the prophets. (Amos 3:7)

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:21)

And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. (James 2:23)

Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend forever? (2 Chronicles 20:7)

Do your friends predict your future?

If you keep doing what you have been doing, you will keep getting what you have been getting. Just like sowing a deed leads to a life, choosing friends will lead to eternal life. So choose wisely.

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:17)

This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that you may be counted worthy of the Kingdom of God, for which you also suffer. Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted with us, when  the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, giving vengeance to those who don’t know God, and to those who don’t obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus, who will pay the penalty: eternal destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might,  when he comes to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired among all those who have believed (because our testimony to you was believed) in that day. To this end we also pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire of goodness and work of faith, with power; that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1:5-12 WEB)
