Don’t live in fear Jesus does not condemn you

If you are living in fear, it is not from God

It doesn’t matter whether your fear is due to your own failures, due to your own insecurities, due to hateful brethren, or caused by religious leaders, it’s not from God. God is love! He took the penalty of your sins and allowed himself to be sacrificed on the cross in your place. He loved you when you were dead in sins…

You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. (Colossians 2:13-14)

He loved you when you were the most unlovable person imaginable. He loves you now no matter how bad your condition. If you experience fear, it is not from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Consider the woman caught in the act of adultery (death penalty under Jewish law) and thrown at the feet of Jesus

A guilty sinner brought in before the most powerful person in the universe, the creator, the one the prophets spoke of, the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, the Messiah. Put yourself in her place as we read this account…

Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early the next morning he returned to the temple courtyard. All the people went to him, so he sat down and began to teach them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught committing adultery. They made her stand in front of everyone and asked Jesus, “Teacher, we caught this woman in the act of adultery. In his teachings, Moses ordered us to stone women like this to death. What do you say?” They asked this to test him. They wanted to find a reason to bring charges against him. Jesus bent down and used his finger to write on the ground. When they persisted in asking him questions, he straightened up and said, “The person who is sinless should be the first to throw a stone at her.” Then he bent down again and continued writing on the ground. One by one, beginning with the older men, the scribes and Pharisees left. Jesus was left alone with the woman. Then Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Where did they go? Has anyone condemned you?” The woman answered, “No one, sir.” Jesus said, “I don’t condemn you either. Go! From now on don’t sin.”  (John 8:1-11 GWT)

They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust. (John 8:6-6 NLT)

Jesus Christ had perfect love, so he did not humiliate her; instead, he cast out her fear. She recognized her guilt. She recognized his Lordship. She accepted his instruction. And, I expect to see her in heaven.

God loves you the same way and accepts you just the way you are

Jesus Christ did not act with condescending arrogant wrath towards that woman. And, If anyone ever had the right to act that way, he did, but he didn’t do it. He loved her just like she was. He loves you the same way.

But, his love won’t leave you in your condition. He will come into your heart and lovingly guide you. He will lead you from one loving place to another loving place. Your path may lead you through a difficult place, but he will be there to comfort and protect you.

Even though I walk through the dark valley of death, because you are with me, I fear no harm. Your rod and your staff give me courage. (Psalm 23:4)

There is some argument that this account might not have been in the original text. I think it probably was because it is consistent with the character of Jesus.
