God has numbered all my days and written them in his book

Every day of our lives is numbered, a fact we often forget as we go through our daily routines. But God has numbered our days, from before we were even born until the day we die. As believers, we are called to seek God’s guidance and care in all things, knowing that He has already written the days of our lives in His book. In this article, we will explore various biblical verses that speak of the numbering of our days and God’s provision for us, including how we should seek His will in all aspects of our lives. Ultimately, we can trust that our superpower is in God’s hands, and that when our number is called, we will be carried by angels into the presence of our Savior.

  • Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. (Psalm 90:1-2)
  • And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7)
  • Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling? (Job 7:1)
  • In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. (Job 12:10)
  • Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass; (Job 14:5)
  • If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. (Job 14:14)
  • The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life. (Job 33:4)
  • LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am. (Psalm 39:4)
  • My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me. (Psalm 31:15)
  • Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. (Psalm 139:16)
  • A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; (Ecclesiastes 3:2)
  • And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? (Daniel 4:35)
  • I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations. (Psalm 102:24)
  • For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. (Acts 17:28)
  • Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. (Psalm 116:15)

I used to be terrified of everything. Terrified of flying. Terrified of the ocean. Terrified of doctors and the hospital. Terrified of getting hurt and dying. Then I realized that God had already written all the days of my life in his book. He has already numbered the days of my life. That won’t change no matter what I do. He is my superpower. He makes me invulnerable until then. Now I don’t have to be terrified of anything.

  • Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. (Malachi 3:16)
  • Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? (Psalm 56:8)

And when that day comes that my number is called, I will be carried by angels into the presence of my savior. I’m okay with that.

“There was once a rich man who used to dress in purple and fine linen and lead a life of daily luxury. And there was a poor man called Lazarus who was put down at his gate. He was covered with sores. He used to long to be fed with the scraps from the rich man’s table. Yes, and the dogs used to come and lick his sores. Well, it happened that the poor man died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And from among the dead he looked up and saw Abraham a long way away, and Lazarus in his arms. (Luke 16 19-31 PHILLIPS)

However, in case you think I’m crazy enough to walk in front of moving trains or jump off buildings. No! I am not, because I am sure God has factored my stupidity into his numbers. Therefore, I try to seek his will in everything I do, not just the big important religious things.

  • But God said unto him, “Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?” (Luke 12:20)

  • For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: (Job 19:25-26)
  • It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble. (Isaiah 40:22-24)
  • Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. (Isaiah 46:10-11)
  • O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. (Romans 11:33-36)
  • That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11)
  • I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. (Revelation 1:8)

In conclusion, the fact that God has numbered our days should serve as a reminder of His provision and care for us. As believers, we are called to seek His guidance in all aspects of our lives, trusting in His wisdom and plan for us. While we may sometimes be tempted to live in fear or anxiety about the future, we can take comfort in the knowledge that our days are in God’s hands. When the time comes for us to leave this earth, we can trust that we will be carried by angels into the presence of our Savior. In the meantime, let us seek to live each day to the fullest, seeking God’s will and trusting in His unfailing love and provision.

  1. Thank you for posting this. My husbands health is failing. I am not afraid of his passing, or my future without him. I know my Lord and Savior and he sustains me. I am already a widow from my previous marriage. Gold bless you…

  2. God laid it on my heart this morning to seek Bible verses referencing “our days being numbered”. My wife was called home (with God) on her birthday February, 20th 2023, at age 74, after several years and unbearable pain for her last 3 or 4 months. I have been at peace (though I have had my moments) but I know she is with the Lord and rejoicing, pain free.

This is what I have told people that has questioned or commented on my lack of emotion and strength during my loss, “God knows the second we will be conceived and the very second of our last heartbeat”.

I guess I had heard during my lifetime that our days are numbered, thus I googled this subject and give God thanks for nudging me to goggle this subject. Thank you Jesus for these previous references and comments.

  3. My great niece died on 3/12/2023 at the age of 24. She was addicted to meth since the age of 17, and no matter how hard she tried, she was not able to stay clean. She was in and out or jail and many rehab centers. When released, she stayed clean for awhile , but then started using again. I prayed for her all of those years to be set free from the addictions. Since her death, I have learned that the “drug culture” she was in was deep! She was raised in a Christian home and had a salvation experience at a young age. However, when she started high school, she got in with the wrong crowd.
At her Celebration of Life, I asked several of her friends how they knew Lilly. Many in the drug culture was shocked by her death. However, I knew that if she continued in the lifestyle, there would be a time when she would die from an overdose. She was released from prison on 3/8 and on 3/12 she died. This article about God Has Numbered All of Our Days confirmed what I was already aware of. I remembered the verses in the Bible that our days are numbered. I believe that God saw her struggles (she didn’t want to keep doing the same things repeatedly) & decided that she didn’t need to struggle with this any longer. Of course, her death shocked her mother and all of the others, who tried for so long to help her get free and stay free. The grief runs deep, and other mother isn’t sure on some days that she’s going to survive. I believe that God sees and knows, and that He is always with her! Last breath on earth = next breath in the presence of the Lord.

    • Greetings Pam, as a parent and grandparent, I share in your grief, this is not what we hope and pray for our children. But the verse that comforts me the most is 2 Corinthians 5:21

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

So, her salvation experience made her right with God through Christ. And nothing can take that away from her: not the wrong crowd, or drugs, or even death. When she reached the end of her days, the angels carried her into the presence of God where she is forever safe with the Lord.

      • Yes, you are right! I truly think that God decided, “THAT’S ENOUGH!” & that the angels carried her into the presence of God! She is forever safe with the Lord! Thank you for your reply.

  4. This truly confirms the truth according to scripture, which I was mainly drawn by. For years, I’ve grappled with doubts, fears, and social isolation, thinking I was as strange as people perceived me to be because I just never fit in and took interest in participating in the same events or doing the same things as people in my family and beyond. Yes, God can use anyone, even those yet to be saved. However, you will know, as I now know, and feel the impact of the anointing, bearing witness to its truth within all who belong to Christ. This is indeed priceless and ordained by God, as He used a willing vessel – you – to share it. Thank you and may God continue to anoint, humble, and use you faithfully for His precious glory. Amen!

    • Thank you for taking the time to write. I am sorry that I could not understand what you were trying to say. Therefore, I hope you are not offended that I asked ChatGPT to fix the spelling and grammatical errors without changing the sense. If this result is what you intended, I am very encouraged and deeply humbled.

    • David was raised in a fundamental Bible-believing church that split from mainline denominations in the 1940s. He experienced intense Bible studies and a strong sense of community. Over time, however, the church’s leadership changed, and it became increasingly legalistic and judgmental, eventually turning into a cult. As David grew in his love for God and others, he was rejected by the church and ultimately marked as a heretic. This event, however, marked a positive turning point in his life.

Freed from the cult and legalism, David continued learning about God’s grace and knowledge. Now able to have loving fellowship with all Christians, he no longer judges others hypocritically but encourages everyone to seek God’s guidance. Committed to sharing the gospel, David focuses on reading the Bible and helping others understand God’s word, believing that the gospel holds the true power to transform lives.
