Is your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life?

Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God slain from before the foundation of the world, wrote the name of every person who will ever live in his Book of Life. He wrote your name in that book. Will you choose for it to be sealed for eternity or permanently blotted out? If you receive him as your personal savior by faith in his finished work at the cross to pay for the penalty of your sins, your name will be eternally sealed in that book and cannot be ever blotted out. But if you reject so great a sacrifice, your name will be permanently blotted out of that book. Which will it be for you?

    • Yes, it is evident that a deep and meaningful connection exists between God and those who have unwavering faith in Him. Throughout the Bible, we find numerous examples of individuals who exhibited great trust and belief in God, even when faced with significant challenges. In Hebrews 11, often referred to as the “Hall of Faith,” we learn about the lives of these faithful individuals, and how their commitment to God’s kingdom ultimately pleased Him.

One particular verse, Hebrews 11:16, highlights this connection by stating that God is not ashamed to be called their God, as they earnestly sought a better, heavenly existence. This verse reminds us that God takes pride in those who put their hope in His promises, even if it means sacrificing worldly comfort and security.

In addition, Mark 8:38 highlights the importance of not being ashamed of Jesus and His words. The verse reads: “For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” In this context, Jesus emphasizes the significance of acknowledging and embracing Him and His teachings. This is a crucial aspect of one’s faith in Jesus Christ, as embracing His teachings and recognizing Him as the Savior are key components of a believer’s faith. Therefore, Mark 8:38 encourages believers to stand firm in their faith by unreservedly accepting Jesus and His words. By doing so, they cultivate a strong relationship with God and Jesus, who, in turn, will not be ashamed to be associated with them. In this sense, both Hebrews 11:16 and Mark 8:38 touch upon the theme of the bond between God and believers, though they approach the subject from distinct perspectives.

As believers in God, we are encouraged to remain steadfast in our faith, knowing that God is proud to be called our God and has prepared a heavenly city for us. This affirmation serves as a constant reminder that our devotion and faithfulness are not only appreciated but also celebrated by God. By trusting in Him and His promises, we forge a bond that is both strong and eternal.

      • While the Bible may not explicitly use the terms “proud” or “embarrassed” when describing God’s feelings toward His children, there are several verses that convey similar sentiments. These verses highlight God’s love, approval, and commitment to those who follow His commandments and remain faithful. Here are a few examples:

        • Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV): “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love, he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
This verse emphasizes God’s love and delight in His children, suggesting that He takes pleasure in their well-being and faithfulness.
        • Matthew 25:21 (NIV): “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!'”
In this parable, Jesus describes how God praises and rewards those who have been faithful to Him, illustrating God’s approval and satisfaction in their actions.
        • 2 Timothy 2:15 (ESV): “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
This verse encourages believers to strive for God’s approval by living faithfully and handling His teachings accurately. In doing so, they will not feel ashamed before God.
        • 1 Peter 5:4 (NIV): “And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.”
This verse, addressed to the elders of the church, promises that those who remain faithful in their service to God will receive His reward and approval when Jesus, the Chief Shepherd, returns.

These verses convey the idea that God values and approves of His children when they demonstrate faithfulness, obedience, and devotion. While the terms “proud” and “embarrassed” may not be explicitly used, the overall message of God’s love, delight, and approval of His faithful children is evident throughout the Bible.

  1. The original text of this question seems to insinuate that everybody who has ever existed is already in this book. It is only when we refuse Christ as our Savior that is blotted out.

Who writes the name in? Is it Jesus Christ?

    • According to Revelation 13:8, names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life from the foundation of the world. Additionally, John 1:1-3 and Colossians 1:16-17 suggest that before the creation of the world, Jesus Christ was with God the Father and participated in the creation of the world. Moreover, 1 Peter 1:20 states that Jesus was chosen by God the Father to be the Savior of the world even before the foundation of the world. Therefore, it can be inferred that Jesus wrote the names in the Lamb’s Book of Life even before the world was created. Finally, Luke 10:20 and Revelation 20:12 state that the Lamb’s Book of Life is written in heaven and guarded by angels.

    • According to the Bible, we can know that our name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life by believing in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. John 3:16 states that “whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Similarly, Romans 10:9-10 says that “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” In addition, 1 John 5:13 says, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” Therefore, by placing our faith in Jesus Christ and confessing Him as Lord, we can be assured that our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life and that we have eternal life with Him.
